Provide the ability to attach documents, such as hospital discharge summaries and other patient information, to a patient's record in Z Dispense, making important clinical information easier to access when needed.
More patients are being pushed out of hospitals so they can be treated at home. When they are discharged from hospital, the hospital typically provides the patients with a discharge summary (documentation of their medications and directions). These summaries would then need to be transcribed by a pharmacist which can sometimes lead to errors. Having the ability to attach the document will help pharmacists look up the document when required.
Thank you to everyone who has voted for this idea. It’s clearly something that would provide real value to pharmacies.
We’ve already started exploring this capability and recently developed an early prototype as part of a Z Software hackathon. This helped confirm its potential, while also highlighting some important design considerations, including:
File storage and database capacity
Privacy and permissions for accessing patient documents within Z Dispense
The file types and maximum file sizes that would need to be supported
These considerations are very much solvable, but they mean the capability requires more planning than we initially anticipated.
In the coming months, we’ll look to gather further input from pharmacies to better understand what documents you need to store, how they should be accessed and how this capability could best support your workflows.
This is something we’re keen to progress and may be considered for implementation early next year, subject to what we learn through further discovery and our development priorities. We’ll share further updates as the idea progresses.
